Day 3: Ha Giang Motorcycle Tour to Meo Vac via The Dong Van Rock Plateau (170 km)

Today we will have one of the best Vietnam motorbike tours. The ride today is mostly on small challenging mountain roads (but incredibly beautiful) on the land of colorful hill-tribes. We will be on some of most beautiful passes in Vietnam such as the Ma Pi Leng, the ‘Heaven Gate’ pass . Here is also good chance to learn and experience the colorful culture of local tribes.

It is inspiring to see how they survive as they manage to live in the rocks. When we reach town we will have some extra time to wander the ancient streets lined with H’mong homes of clay bricks and tile roofs built centuries ago.

Embarking on one of the most challenging and rewarding legs of your journey, you head east towards Meo Vac, navigating the breathtaking Ma Pi Leng Pass. Known as one of the most scenic roads in Vietnam, this pass offers dizzying views of the Nho Que River far below, with towering limestone cliffs rising on either side. The road winds sharply through the mountains, requiring careful navigation, but the panoramic views of the rugged landscape make every twist and turn worthwhile.

After descending from the pass, you arrive in Meo Vac, a small town nestled in a valley surrounded by towering peaks. This area is home to the Hmong people, and you may have the opportunity to visit a local market, where ethnic minorities from the surrounding hills come to trade goods and socialize.

Hotel stay in Dong Van.

Day 4: Meo Vac Motorcycle Tour to Ban Gioc Waterfall via Bao Lac (250 km)

Continuing your ride, you head towards Bao Lac, a remote district known for its stunning natural beauty and cultural diversity. The road between Meo Vac and Bao Lac is less traveled, offering a sense of solitude as you pass through dense forests and cross rivers via narrow bridges. The ride is a mix of paved and dirt tracks, providing an adventurous experience as you make your way through this rugged region.

In Bao Lac, you can take a short break to explore the town and interact with the locals, many of whom belong to ethnic groups such as the Tay, Nung, and San Chi. The area is rich in traditional customs, and you might witness local craft-making or agricultural practices.

After leaving Bao Lac, the road begins to smooth out as you head southeast towards Ban Gioc Waterfall. As you approach the falls, the landscape opens up, revealing the breathtaking sight of water cascading down the limestone cliffs, creating one of Vietnam’s most spectacular natural attractions. The waterfall, straddling the border with China, is a must-see highlight of your journey. Spend the evening near the falls, relaxing and reflecting on the day’s incredible adventure.

After a day of intense riding, today’s journey takes you from Ban Gioc Waterfall’s majesty to Ba Be Lake’s peaceful surroundings. The ride is smoother, with less demanding terrain, allowing you to enjoy the changing landscapes as you move from rugged mountains to the serene waters of Ba Be.

Ba Be Lake, located in Ba Be National Park, is a natural haven surrounded by dense forests and limestone cliffs. Upon arrival, you can take a boat trip on the lake, exploring its caves and small islands, or simply relax by the water. The evening is spent in a local homestay, where you can experience the warm hospitality of the Tay ethnic people.
