Guests arriving from Hanoi by overnight transportation will meet the tour team at the designated departure point. Before setting off, your rider-guide will provide a short safety briefing, check the motorcycles and explain the day’s route. Once everyone is ready, we leave the city behind and begin climbing into the mountains. Lung Cu Flag Tower Only a few kilometres outside Ha Giang, the scenery changes dramatically. Busy streets give way to green valleys, limestone mountains, rivers and small rural villages. Our first major climb is Bac Sum Pass, a twisting mountain road offering impressive views across the surrounding countryside. We continue towards Quan Ba Heaven Gate, one of the symbolic entrances to the Dong Van Karst Plateau. From the viewpoint, weather permitting, you can look across Tam Son Valley and see the distinctive Quan Ba Twin Mountains rising above the rice fields. The journey then continues to Nam Dam Village, home to the Dao ethnic community. Traditional houses, farming landscapes and quiet village lanes provide a glimpse into daily life in the northern mountains. Afterwards, we ride through forested hills towards Yen Minh, where lunch is served at a local restaurant. The roads become increasingly dramatic after leaving town, winding through limestone valleys and remote Hmong settlements. In the afternoon, we conquer the famous Tham Ma Pass, a photogenic series of mountain curves historically used to test the strength of horses carrying goods across the plateau. The viewpoint offers one of the most recognisable panoramas of the Ha Giang Loop. Our next stop is the Vuong Family Residence, often called the Hmong King’s Palace. Located in Sa Phin Valley, this historic stone and timber residence reflects the wealth, power and cultural influences of the Vuong family during the early twentieth century. By late afternoon, we arrive in Dong Van, check into our accommodation and enjoy time to relax. Dinner is served at approximately 7:00 p.m., featuring regional dishes and, for those who wish to try it, a small taste of locally made corn wine known affectionately as “happy water.” After dinner, you are free to explore Dong Van Old Quarter, enjoy the mountain atmosphere or watch local cultural activities around the central square when available. Within minutes of leaving town, the road begins to climb through a dramatic world of limestone peaks and deep valleys. We stop at several viewpoints overlooking the upper reaches of the Nho Que River, whose emerald water winds between towering mountain walls. The route then joins the legendary Happiness Road, constructed through some of the most difficult terrain in northern Vietnam. Thousands of young workers and volunteers spent years carving the road into the mountains, creating a vital connection between Dong Van, Meo Vac and the communities of the remote plateau. The highlight of the morning is Ma Pi Leng Pass, widely regarded as one of Vietnam’s most impressive mountain passes. Rising to around 1,500 metres above sea level, the road clings to steep cliffs high above the Nho Que Valley. From the main viewpoints, travellers can admire the enormous scale of the landscape: jagged limestone mountains, narrow roads etched into the cliffs and the river flowing far below through Tu San Canyon. Ha Giang Motorbike Tour to Dong Van Depending on weather, traffic and local conditions, we may stop near the Ma Pi Leng Sky Path for a wider panoramic view. This is an ideal place to take photographs and fully appreciate the extraordinary relationship between the road, the river and the surrounding mountains. We then descend towards Meo Vac, a remote frontier town surrounded by rocky peaks and ethnic minority villages. After a short break, the journey continues through the photogenic M-shaped mountain road, where a sequence of bends forms a distinctive pattern across the valley. Lunch is served along the route before we continue through Lung Ho and Mau Due. This section is quieter and more rural, passing cornfields, terraced farms and communities where Hmong, Dao, Tay and other ethnic groups have lived for generations. By late afternoon, we reach Du Gia Village, a peaceful settlement hidden within a green valley. Depending on arrival time and weather, we may visit Du Gia Waterfall, where travellers can relax beside the water or take a refreshing swim. Tonight, we stay with a Tay ethnic family in a traditional homestay. Dinner is prepared by our hosts and served in a warm, communal atmosphere. Day 3: Du Gia – Duong Thuong – Trang Kim – Thai An – Quan Ba – Ha Giang – Limousine Transfer to Hanoi Distance: Approximately 89 km Riding time: 4–5 hours, excluding sightseeing stops Road conditions: Rural mountain roads, valley routes, winding passes and occasional rough sections Meals: Breakfast and lunch Hanoi transfer: Luxury limousine departing at approximately 4:00 p.m. After breakfast, we say goodbye to our Tay hosts and begin the final stage of the Ha Giang Loop. Although we are returning towards Ha Giang City, the adventure is far from over. Today’s route passes through some of the loop’s quieter and less-travelled landscapes, offering a slower and more intimate view of mountain life. Leaving Du Gia, we ride towards Duong Thuong Valley, surrounded by limestone mountains, rice terraces and scattered ethnic minority villages. The road climbs through a beautiful rural landscape where farmers tend cornfields, buffalo graze beside the road and traditional houses stand beneath the mountains. This section is particularly rewarding because it receives fewer visitors than Dong Van or Ma Pi Leng. The scenery feels peaceful and authentic, with long stretches of road passing through forests, valleys and remote farming communities. We continue through Trang Kim and towards Thai An, stopping at selected viewpoints along the way. From the higher sections of the road, you can see rivers cutting through the valley floor, terraced fields climbing the hillsides and villages appearing between the mountains. Road conditions may vary depending on the season. Some sections are smoothly paved, while others may contain loose gravel, broken surfaces or muddy patches after rain. Your experienced rider-guide will adjust the pace and route to ensure the journey remains comfortable and safe. Meo Vac Motorcycle To Ha Giang As we descend towards the lower mountains, we pass through Quan Ba District and gradually return to the broader valleys surrounding Ha Giang City. Lunch is served at an authentic local restaurant before arriving back at the tour office in the early afternoon. There will be time to rest, reorganise your luggage and say goodbye to the rider-guides who have accompanied you throughout the journey. At approximately 4:00 p.m., a luxury limousine will collect you for the transfer back to Hanoi. The journey normally takes around five and a half to six hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.
