Tour Details

Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Be Lake (240 km | 6–7 hrs riding)

Your Vietnam Big Bike Ride begins in the vibrant capital of Hanoi. After a hearty breakfast and safety briefing, you rev your engine, easing through Hanoi’s morning bustle before escaping into the open countryside. The Red River Delta gives way to winding provincial roads lined with rice paddies, water buffalo, and simple villages. This transition from city chaos to rural calm sets the rhythm for the week ahead.

By mid-morning, the terrain grows steeper as you enter Bac Kan province. Here, the ADV bikes come alive—sweeping curves and gentle climbs allow you to feel the machine’s weight settle confidently into each corner. Stops are made at roadside tea houses, where locals greet you with smiles and green tea, curious about your big machines.

In the afternoon, the landscape transforms into limestone karsts draped in jungle as you ride into Ba Be National Park. Known as Vietnam’s largest natural freshwater lake, Ba Be is both a geological wonder and a cultural sanctuary of Tay ethnic villages. Upon arrival, you settle into Ba Be Jungle Houses, a boutique eco-lodge offering wooden villas nestled on the lakeside.

The day closes with a private boat ride across Ba Be’s emerald waters. As your sampan glides past caves and jungle cliffs, the sun dips, painting the sky in shades of gold and purple. Dinner features freshly caught fish, forest vegetables, and local rice wine. Tonight, the lullaby of cicadas and gentle ripples of the lake accompany your rest—perfect preparation for the mountain challenges ahead.

Day 2: Ba Be – Dong Van via Meo Vac (250 km | 7–8 hrs riding)

Day 2 is where the adventure accelerates. From Ba Be, you climb into the heart of the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark, a place where roads coil like serpents around limestone peaks. Riding here is both a test and a joy—tight hairpins demand precision, while sweeping descents let you savor the freedom of a true Vietnam ADV Bike Tour.

Midday, you reach Meo Vac, a remote valley town known for its colorful ethnic Sunday market. After a quick stop, the real highlight awaits: the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass. This road is often called the “King of Vietnamese passes,” and with good reason. Hugging vertical cliffs hundreds of meters above the jade-green Nho Que River, it offers a panorama so dramatic that even seasoned bikers stop in awe. The sense of scale—mountains stacked to the horizon, tiny boats drifting below—is humbling.

By late afternoon, you roll into Dong Van Old Quarter, a small town with ancient stone houses and Hmong culture etched into every street corner. Accommodation tonight is at Hoa Cuong Hotel, the best available in this frontier region, offering comfort in an otherwise rugged environment. Dinner is a hearty Hmong-style hotpot, washed down with corn liquor brewed in the highlands. It is in places like Dong Van that the rawness of a Vietnam Big Bike Expedition truly comes alive.

Day 3: Dong Van – Ha Giang via Yen Minh (180 km | 6 hrs riding)

The morning ride begins with crisp mountain air and the echo of your exhaust bouncing off karst cliffs. The road to Yen Minh passes through Hmong and Dao villages, where terraced fields cling to impossible slopes. Here, cultural immersion is as important as the ride: stop to visit the Palace of the Hmong Kings, an imposing stone residence built during French colonial times, reflecting both Hmong authority and European influence.

As you ride south, the landscape softens. The road widens, asphalt smoothens, and pine forests replace jagged karsts. This is a chance to let your ADV machine stretch—longer straights and faster curves provide pure riding pleasure.

Arriving in Ha Giang city, you check in to P’apiu Resort, a luxury hillside retreat that redefines highland indulgence. Each villa is designed for privacy, with sweeping valley views and exclusive butler service. After a long day in the saddle, soak in a herbal bath prepared with mountain herbs, followed by a gourmet dinner featuring organic farm-to-table dishes.

Tonight, as you sip wine on your private terrace, it is clear: this Luxury Vietnam Big Bike Tour is not just about the miles ridden, but the harmony between rugged adventure and refined relaxation.

Day 4: Ha Giang – Sapa (220 km | 7 hrs riding)

This day links two of Vietnam’s most iconic destinations. Leaving Ha Giang, the route flows through valleys and across ridgelines, each corner revealing new panoramas. Rural life thrives here: children waving roadside, farmers tending maize fields, water buffalo pulling wooden plows.

By midday, you climb higher into the northern mountains, where the road twists toward O Quy Ho Pass, one of Vietnam’s highest at nearly 2,000 meters. This stretch is made for big bikes—sharp switchbacks alternating with wide sweeps, and mist curling off the peaks. On clear days, Fansipan, the “Roof of Indochina,” dominates the skyline.

By late afternoon, descend into the charming town of Sapa. Your home tonight is the world-renowned Topas Ecolodge, perched atop a secluded hill with individual bungalows overlooking terraced valleys. The ecolodge combines rustic charm with world-class luxury, often featured in National Geographic and Condé Nast.

As evening falls, indulge in a herbal spa treatment or unwind in the infinity pool overlooking endless rice terraces. Dinner is a fine-dining experience that fuses Vietnamese tradition with modern culinary artistry. Few moments capture the essence of a Vietnam Big Bike Ride better than watching the sun sink behind mountains, a glass of wine in hand, after conquering the legendary passes of northern Vietnam.

Day 5: Sapa – Mu Cang Chai (200 km | 6 hrs riding)

As dawn breaks over Sapa, the valley awakens in mist and soft golden light. After breakfast, your Vietnam Big Bike Expedition continues southward, weaving through valleys where terraced rice fields cascade like emerald stairways. This is riding at its most poetic—roads bending gently along mountainsides while endless terraces stretch into the horizon.

By late morning, you ride into Lao Cai province’s remote backroads, where ethnic minority villages line the route. Children wave enthusiastically as you pass; women in traditional indigo clothes carry baskets of maize and firewood. Stops along the way allow you to capture unforgettable photographs of daily life that seems untouched by time.

The final stretch into Mu Cang Chai is legendary among bikers. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage landscape, the rice terraces here are considered some of the most beautiful in the world, especially at harvest when the fields glow golden. Riding into this valley feels like entering a living postcard.

Tonight, stay at Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge, a boutique retreat designed with natural wood and bamboo, perched above terraced slopes. After a long ride, relax on your balcony with sweeping views while the staff prepares a dinner of ethnic Thai dishes—sticky rice, smoked buffalo, and mountain herbs. The evening is quiet, broken only by the distant sounds of gongs and drums echoing from a village festival. It’s a moment that blends raw nature with the subtle elegance of a Luxury Vietnam Big Bike Tours.

Day 6: Mu Cang Chai – Ta Xua (160 km | 5–6 hrs riding)

Today is about chasing the clouds. Leaving Mu Cang Chai, you head south on roads that gradually climb into the mystical Ta Xua mountains. The route is narrower, more technical—tight switchbacks, gravel patches, and sheer drops make it a thrilling test for ADV bikers. The reward is unmatched: Ta Xua is famed as the “Kingdom of Clouds,” where seas of mist drift across valleys, and ridges pierce through like islands in the sky.

Stops are made at local tea plantations where you can taste ancient Shan Tuyet tea, harvested from century-old trees rooted in misty hillsides. It’s a cultural gem rarely experienced by outsiders.

Arrival at Ta Xua Hills Ecolodge brings the day’s adventure to a close. This boutique lodge offers wooden chalets perched high above the valleys, perfectly positioned for cloud-watching. As dusk settles, enjoy a private barbecue dinner under the stars, with bonfires glowing and traditional folk music performed by villagers.

Here, amid the thin mountain air and vast night skies, the spirit of a Vietnam ADV Bike Tour is fully realized—raw adventure softened by cultural richness and exclusive comfort.

Day 7: Ta Xua – Pu Luong Nature Reserve (180 km | 6 hrs riding)

From Ta Xua, descend toward the Da River, crossing by ferry before connecting with smoother stretches of CT02 and QL43. The transition from rugged highland tracks to wide valleys is striking: the ride flows easily, with long straights flanked by bamboo groves, cornfields, and stilt houses of Thai and Muong people.

By afternoon, you roll into Pu Luong Nature Reserve, a lush paradise of limestone mountains, cascading waterfalls, and terraced valleys. Unlike the more famous Sapa, Pu Luong remains peaceful and authentic, offering both cultural depth and natural beauty.

Your lodging tonight is at the iconic Pu Luong Retreat, known for its infinity pool overlooking terraces and eco-chic villas blending luxury with nature. After a refreshing swim, join a guided walk through the reserve: rice paddies, hidden bamboo waterwheels, and villagers weaving textiles. Dinner is served al fresco with candlelight and mountain breezes, featuring organic local dishes.

For many, this is the most serene night of the entire Luxury Vietnam Big Bike Tour—a place where time slows, nature surrounds, and comfort feels almost otherworldly.

Day 8: Pu Luong – Trang An – Bai Dinh – Hanoi (200 km | 6 hrs riding)

The final day of the Vietnam Big Bike Ride is a fitting grand finale. Descending from Pu Luong, the road smoothens into the fertile plains of Ninh Binh. Limestone karst towers rise dramatically from rice fields, earning this region the nickname “Halong Bay on land.”

You stop at the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, a UNESCO site, for a private sampan boat journey through caves and emerald waterways. Drifting past sheer cliffs mirrored in the still water is a tranquil contrast to days of mountain riding. Nearby lies Bai Dinh Pagoda, the largest Buddhist complex in Vietnam, where golden statues and towering halls reflect the country’s deep spirituality.

In the late afternoon, you return to Hanoi, where the legendary Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi awaits. A landmark since 1901, this colonial-era hotel combines timeless French elegance with Vietnamese charm. Tonight, celebrate your successful expedition with a farewell fine-dining experience, raising a glass to an extraordinary journey.

This 8-day adventure has been more than a ride—it has been a Luxury Vietnam Big Bike Expedition, merging the freedom of the open road with the finest cultural, natural, and luxury experiences Vietnam has to offer.
