Tour Details

Day 1: Hanoi → Ta Xua Peak (~200 km / 6–7 hours)

Your Vietnam ADV Bike Tour begins with the early hum of Hanoi awakening. As you fire up your Honda CB500X or BMW GS1250, the city’s endless stream of scooters parts for your convoy of adventure riders. Soon, the honks fade into the distance, replaced by quiet countryside roads lined with banana groves, cornfields, and rustic villages.

The journey west introduces you to rolling hills, winding tarmac, and occasional hairpin turns that keep you engaged and exhilarated. Lunch is enjoyed at a rural restaurant, where steaming bowls of pho and grilled pork skewers taste fresher than any you’ve had in the city. Villagers look on with curiosity and admiration at your gleaming big bikes—symbols of freedom on the open road.

By afternoon, the road climbs sharply toward the cloud-kissed ridges of Ta Xua Peak, a legendary destination for Vietnamese travelers and the ultimate playground for Vietnam Big Bike Tours. The higher you ride, the cooler the air becomes, until you’re weaving through misty mountain passes surrounded by towering cliffs.

Arriving near the summit by late afternoon, you check into a cozy homestay perched high above the valley. As the sun sets, waves of cloud drift through the mountains, transforming the landscape into a surreal “sea of clouds.” Dinner is served family-style—hotpot bubbling with local herbs, free-range chicken, and sticky rice—warming you against the mountain chill. Under a canopy of stars, with your ADV bike resting outside, the first chapter of your Luxury Vietnam Big Bike Tour closes in unforgettable fashion.

Overnight in Ta Xua.

Day 2: Ta Xua → Ngoc Chien via Tu Le & Mu Cang Chai (~210 km / 7 hours)

Awake to the breathtaking sight of Ta Xua’s iconic “dinosaur spine” ridge silhouetted against a sky streaked with dawn. This morning, your ride descends into lush valleys before curving north toward Tu Le and Mu Cang Chai, regions famed for some of the most spectacular rice terraces on Earth.

The ride is pure poetry on two wheels—smooth tarmac, gentle curves, and endless panoramas. You stop at viewpoints where terraced fields cascade down mountainsides like giant amphitheaters of gold and green. Farmers bend low in the fields, and children with rosy cheeks wave as you pass. Lunch in Tu Le offers mountain delicacies—sticky rice steamed in bamboo tubes, roasted duck, and fresh herbs picked from the slopes.

By afternoon, the ride grows more adventurous as you climb through rugged highlands toward Ngoc Chien, a hidden gem of northwest Vietnam. Here, wooden stilt houses sit in harmony with terraced fields and forests, while natural hot springs bubble invitingly nearby.

Your lodge or homestay welcomes you with warm smiles. After a long day in the saddle, there’s no better reward than sinking into a natural hot spring as the sun dips behind the mountains. Dinner is traditional, hearty, and communal—grilled fish from mountain streams, wild greens, and local rice wine. Tonight, you’ll fall asleep to the whisper of mountain breezes, your ADV bike resting outside, ready for tomorrow.

Overnight in Ngoc Chien.

Day 3: Ngoc Chien → Tuan Giao → Dien Bien Phu (~200 km / 7 hours)

This day of your Vietnam Big Bike Tour blends natural beauty with living history. Leaving Ngoc Chien, the road winds through dense forests and remote valleys, dotted with villages of the Thai and Hmong people. Each bend reveals another waterfall, another hidden valley, another glimpse of daily life untouched by time.

The ADV big bike proves its worth on this stretch—long climbs, sweeping curves, and occasional rough patches are handled with ease. You stop at roadside markets where women in colorful dresses sell fresh fruit and handwoven cloth. Lunch is taken in Tuan Giao, where traditional mountain fare fuels you for the road ahead.

By afternoon, you roll into Dien Bien Phu, a town etched deeply into Vietnam’s history. Here, the French colonial army was decisively defeated in 1954, marking a turning point in the nation’s struggle for independence. You’ll visit key sites such as the French bunker, victory monument, and local museum, gaining insight into the past.

Evening settles with a mix of reflection and relaxation. At your hotel, a hearty dinner awaits, perhaps featuring buffalo meat, sticky rice, and forest herbs. This is a day where your Vietnam ADV Bike Tour goes beyond landscapes—it immerses you in Vietnam’s powerful story.

Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

Day 4: Dien Bien Phu → Muong Lay (~120 km / 4–5 hours)

Compared to previous days, today’s ride is shorter but no less enchanting. You follow rivers winding through valleys hemmed in by limestone cliffs, passing remote settlements where time seems to stand still. The road is a blend of smooth asphalt and occasional gravel, ideal terrain for ADV big bikes.

Lunch is enjoyed by a riverside, where fresh fish grilled over charcoal tastes heavenly. In the afternoon, you continue to Muong Lay, a town beautifully set on the banks of the Da River. The turquoise waters and surrounding mountains create a calm, picturesque setting.

Your homestay here introduces you to the Thai ethnic community’s way of life—wooden stilt houses, woven bamboo floors, and evenings filled with folk songs and dance. Dinner includes river specialties, sticky rice, and perhaps a glass of homemade corn wine. Tonight, the quiet of Muong Lay allows you to rest deeply, your spirit renewed for the next day’s journey.

Lunch is enjoyed at a roadside village where warm hospitality turns a simple meal into a cultural exchange. In the afternoon, you crest mountain passes and begin your descent into Sapa, the famous hill station founded by the French. The town is alive with energy—colorful markets, Hmong women in embroidered dress, and cool mist hugging the pine-clad hills.

Your hotel provides comfort and charm, with mountain views from your window. Dinner is enjoyed in town, perhaps a hotpot bubbling with vegetables and fresh salmon—a Sapa specialty. As night falls, you stroll through Sapa’s town square, alive with the sounds of music and laughter.

Day 6: Sapa → Bac Ha Market (~100 km / 4–5 hours)

This morning’s ride is a short but rewarding stage of your Vietnam ADV Big Bike Tour. The road to Bac Ha winds gently through rolling hills and valleys. Sundays are especially colorful, as Bac Ha hosts one of northern Vietnam’s largest ethnic markets. Here, Flower Hmong, Tay, Nung, and Phu La people gather in dazzling costumes, selling everything from livestock to textiles, herbal medicine, and jewelry.

Lunch is enjoyed at a local eatery—spicy noodles, grilled pork, and steamed corn cakes. The afternoon gives you time to explore nearby villages, where traditional houses sit amid cornfields and plum orchards.

Your homestay in Bac Ha offers another warm welcome. Dinner is a family affair, complete with local specialties and homemade rice wine. The evening is filled with laughter, stories, and the vibrant spirit of highland culture.

By afternoon, you arrive at Thac Bà Reservoir, often called the “Ha Long Bay on the mountain” for its thousands of islets. You board a boat to glide across emerald waters, passing floating villages and bamboo groves. Lunch is enjoyed lakeside—grilled fish, stir-fried vegetables, and local herbs.

Your homestay in Vu Linh Village introduces you to the Tay community’s traditions. Dinner is hearty and communal, and the night is filled with stories, folk songs, and the sparkle of stars reflected on the lake’s surface.
