Itinerary:

Day 1: Hanoi – Countryside Backroads – Mai Chau Valley – Pu Luong Nature Reserve (L/D)

Approx. riding distance: 180–200 km

Your Vietnam motorbike tour starts this morning with a safety briefing and bike check in Hanoi. Once everyone is comfortable with their bikes, we gently escape the city traffic, following smaller roads that soon lead you into the quieter Red River Delta countryside. As you ride out, the skyline of Hanoi fades behind you, replaced by rice paddies, small villages and the everyday life of local farmers working in the fields.

We’ll ride on a mix of paved backroads and small rural lanes, avoiding highways as much as possible. Along the way, we stop for coffee at a roadside café where you can stretch your legs and watch the flow of local life – bicycles, school kids in uniform, vendors on scooters carrying everything from pigs to flowers. This is where you start to feel the true rhythm of a Vietnam motorbike adventure.

By late morning, the scenery becomes more dramatic as we approach Hoa Binh and the gateway to the Northwest mountains. We wind our way up through low passes, with views over lakes, rivers and terraced fields. Lunch is served in a local stilt-house restaurant in Mai Chau valley, home to the Thai ethnic minority. You’ll taste simple but delicious home-cooked food – sticky rice, grilled pork, local vegetables – and maybe try a shot of local rice wine if you like.

In the afternoon, we continue riding along quieter roads, gradually entering Pu Luong Nature Reserve. The landscape here is truly special: endless rice terraces, lush green valleys, and stilt-house villages tucked into the hillsides. The last stretch of road is scenic and slightly winding, giving you plenty of opportunities for photos.

We arrive at your eco-lodge or homestay in Pu Luong by late afternoon. After check-in, you can relax by the pool, walk around the village, or simply sit on the terrace and listen to the sounds of nature. Dinner is served at the lodge, featuring local specialties. Overnight in Pu Luong, surrounded by the cool mountain air and soft sounds of the countryside.

Off-road to Pu Luong

Day 2: Pu Luong – Mountain Villages – Nho Quan – Tam Coc (Ninh Binh) – Boat Trip (B/L/D)

Approx. riding distance: 140–160 km

Wake up to birdsong and mist rising slowly over the terraced fields. After breakfast at the lodge, we spend a little time exploring Pu Luong by motorbike, riding along narrow village roads and dirt sections (depending on group skill level and weather) that cut through rice paddies and bamboo forests. You’ll see farmers working with water buffalo, women weaving textiles under their stilt houses, and children waving as you pass. This is a highlight for many riders – a chance to experience authentic rural Vietnam far from the main tourist trails.

Mid-morning, we say goodbye to Pu Luong and ride downhill toward the lowlands. The road gradually changes from winding mountain routes to flatter countryside, but the scenery remains beautiful, with rivers, karst hills and villages along the way. We take regular breaks for photos, coffee and to keep everyone fresh and comfortable on the bikes.

Lunch is in a local town around Nho Quan, where we enjoy simple Vietnamese dishes and refresh with cold drinks. After lunch, the landscape slowly transforms into the famous karst scenery of Ninh Binh – often called “Halong Bay on land”. Towering limestone mountains rise straight from rice paddies and rivers, creating a stunning panorama as we approach Tam Coc.

By early afternoon, we arrive in Tam Coc and check into your hotel or homestay. After a short rest, we swap our bikes for traditional sampan boats for a peaceful boat trip along the Ngo Dong River. A local rower (often using both hands and feet!) takes you gently along the water, passing under low caves and between dramatic limestone cliffs. You float past rice fields, ducks and water buffalo grazing near the riverbank – it’s a beautiful contrast to the excitement of motorbiking.

The boat ride usually lasts around 1.5–2 hours. Back on land, you have time to stroll around Tam Coc village or relax with a cold drink watching the sunset over the karsts. Dinner is on your own tonight, with plenty of local restaurants within walking distance. Overnight in Tam Coc.

Ninh Binh – Tam Coc

Day 3: Tam Coc – Hang Mua Viewpoint – Countryside Backroads – Hanoi (B/L)

Approx. riding distance: 110–130 km

After breakfast, we start the day with a short ride to Hang Mua, one of the most impressive viewpoints in Ninh Binh. We park the bikes, then climb the stone steps (around 400–500 steps) to the peak of Mua Cave. The reward at the top is a spectacular panoramic view over Tam Coc’s rice fields, the winding river, and the surrounding limestone mountains – a perfect place for memorable photos of your Vietnam motorbike tour.

Coming back down, we enjoy a short break and a refreshing drink before getting back on the bikes. The route back to Hanoi is designed to be as scenic and enjoyable as possible. We avoid busy highways where we can, choosing smaller rural roads that run through villages, farmlands and along riverbanks. This final ride gives you one more chance to soak in the countryside scenery and interact with local life on the way.

We stop for lunch en route in a local restaurant, where you can enjoy more Vietnamese favourites: fresh spring rolls, stir-fried noodles, grilled meat and seasonal vegetables. Your guide will be happy to explain the dishes and suggest what to try if you’re curious about local cuisine.

Hang Mua Viewpoint

The last section of the ride brings us gradually back into the outskirts of Hanoi. As traffic becomes busier, your guide will lead the group carefully through the flow of scooters and cars, helping everyone feel safe and confident. By mid- to late afternoon, we arrive back at our starting point in Hanoi. It’s time to return the bikes, enjoy a well-earned cold drink, and share your favourite moments and photos from the road.

Your 3-day Hanoi – Pu Luong – Ninh Binh motorbike loop ends here, but the memories of mountain passes, terraced fields, peaceful rivers and friendly smiles will stay with you long after the engine stops.
