Tour Details

Day 1: Hanoi – Hoa Binh – Pu Luong Nature Reserve (200 km / 5–6 hours)

Your journey begins in Vietnam’s bustling capital, where the morning energy of Hanoi pulses through the streets. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll mount your ADV Big Bike—Honda CB500X or BMW GS1250—and ease out of the city. The first few kilometers take you past Hanoi’s awakening suburbs: street vendors arranging steaming bowls of pho, school children in white uniforms riding bicycles, the hum of scooters blending into the background. Soon, the city noise fades, and the adventure unfolds.

The ride south-west toward Hoa Binh province introduces you to the rolling foothills of northern Vietnam. The roads are smooth yet winding, ideal for testing the balance and power of your machine. Along the way, limestone karsts pierce the skyline, their rugged silhouettes mirrored in glassy lakes below. You’ll pass through small towns where vibrant markets burst with colors—bright piles of chili, baskets of mangos, and locals who smile and wave as you cruise past.

As the route climbs higher, the landscape transforms. The highway narrows into winding passes that snake along terraced rice fields. Every curve opens a new view—green hills patched with corn and cassava, wooden stilt houses perched above streams, and the rhythmic motion of farmers working the land. This is the first true taste of Vietnam’s countryside, where life moves at a slower, timeless pace.

By midday, you’ll stop for lunch in a local village, enjoying simple yet flavorful dishes like grilled pork with herbs, sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves, and fresh mountain vegetables. Sharing a meal with local families offers more than nourishment—it offers a window into daily life and traditions passed down through generations.

The afternoon ride carries you deeper into Pu Luong Nature Reserve. The road descends into a hidden valley, where lush forests embrace winding rivers, and the air feels cooler, fresher, almost enchanted. On your ADV big bike, the balance of comfort and control lets you fully enjoy each curve, each descent, without fatigue. You’ll ride past bamboo forests and hear the distant sound of water wheels turning, used by villagers to irrigate their rice fields—a symbol of harmony between people and nature.

Arriving at your eco-lodge in Pu Luong by late afternoon, you’ll be greeted with warm hospitality. The lodge sits amid rice terraces that glow gold in the setting sun, offering panoramic views from your balcony. After refreshing with a cool drink, you may choose to stroll through the nearby village, where children play barefoot and elders gather to share stories.

Dinner is served at the lodge, often featuring regional specialties like mountain chicken, fresh river fish, and fragrant herbs. As night falls, the valley quiets to a chorus of crickets and the soft rush of the river. Under a canopy of stars, you’ll reflect on your first day’s ride—200 kilometers that carried you from Hanoi’s urban energy into the heart of rural tranquility. The adventure has only begun, but already the road is whispering promises of what lies ahead.

Overnight in Pu Luong Eco Lodge.

Day 2: Pu Luong – Tan Ky (Nghe An Province, ~220 km / 6–7 hours)

The morning in Pu Luong begins with the soft light of dawn spilling across the terraces. Mist clings to the valley floor, creating an ethereal view as you sip a cup of hot Vietnamese coffee. Soon after breakfast, engines roar to life, and the convoy of ADV Big Bikes rolls out of the valley. The road snakes alongside rivers and forested slopes, an invigorating ride that awakens every sense.

Leaving the reserve behind, you descend toward the broader plains of Nghe An province. The scenery shifts from steep valleys to wide farmlands dotted with buffalos grazing lazily in the fields. Your big bike handles effortlessly as the highway stretches out, allowing you to settle into a steady rhythm and enjoy the ride. Small hamlets appear along the road, where women in conical hats sell seasonal fruits, and children enthusiastically wave as you pass.

Midday, you’ll stop in a riverside town for lunch—typically a feast of grilled fish, braised pork, and freshly cooked rice. Dining in these modest, family-run establishments not only satisfies the appetite but also immerses you in the warmth of Vietnam’s rural hospitality. Conversations often flow, with locals curious about your motorbikes and your journey.

The afternoon ride deepens into Nghe An, following sections of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Highway. This historic route, once the lifeline of wartime supply chains, is now a rider’s paradise: smooth tarmac, long sweeping curves, and minimal traffic. The dense forests on either side conceal echoes of history, yet for riders, it’s pure freedom.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Tan Ky, a quiet town where the past lingers in stories and monuments marking the beginning of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Your boutique guesthouse offers comfort and a chance to relax. After a hearty dinner, you may stroll the streets or simply unwind, letting the hum of the day’s 220 kilometers settle into memory.

Overnight in Tan Ky.

Day 3: Tan Ky – Phong Nha (Quang Binh, ~250 km / 6–7 hours)

Today is one of the most rewarding riding days of the tour. From Tan Ky, you’ll follow the Ho Chi Minh Highway southward, tracing mountain ridges and valleys where few tourists venture. The ADV Big Bike shows its worth here—steady, powerful, and comfortable on long-distance stretches.

Morning roads cut through dense jungles where sunlight flickers through a canopy of bamboo and tropical hardwoods. Occasionally, you’ll pass remote villages, their stilt houses surrounded by gardens and livestock. The road remains smooth but winding, offering a perfect mix of technical curves and relaxing straights.

Lunch is taken in a local town en route, often with specialties like grilled river fish, spicy soups, and sticky rice. It’s a chance to pause, refuel, and share stories with fellow riders.

By mid-afternoon, the approach to Phong Nha is breathtaking. Limestone mountains rise dramatically, shrouded in mist, while rivers carve through valleys in shades of emerald green. The region is part of Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its vast cave systems. On arrival, you’ll check into a riverside resort with stunning views.

In the late afternoon, you may take an optional boat trip along the Son River to visit Phong Nha Cave, gliding beneath towering cliffs as dusk paints the water golden. Dinner is enjoyed at the resort, with local delicacies like peanut-encrusted spring rolls or stir-fried vegetables grown nearby.

The day closes with riders gathered under the night sky, engines silent, sharing the camaraderie that only a full day’s adventure can create.

Overnight in Phong Nha.

Day 4: Phong Nha – Khe Sanh – Hue (~270 km / 7–8 hours)

This stage of the journey is long yet unforgettable. Departing Phong Nha, you ride westward into remote mountains near the Laos border. The highway unfolds like a ribbon through untouched wilderness, with barely another vehicle in sight. Mist often hugs the ridges in the morning, adding a mysterious charm to the ride.

The ADV Big Bike thrives here—effortlessly climbing hills and gliding through hairpin turns. Stops are made at viewpoints where panoramic vistas stretch endlessly, the forest canopy unbroken and wild. Around midday, you arrive in Khe Sanh, once the site of a pivotal battle during the Vietnam War. A short visit to the Khe Sanh Combat Base Museum offers a sobering reminder of history.

After lunch, you continue toward the coast, descending from highlands into fertile plains. The ride grows more relaxed, the air saltier as you near the central coast. By late afternoon, you enter Hue, Vietnam’s former imperial capital. The Perfume River glimmers under the setting sun, and tree-lined boulevards whisper of grandeur past.

Your heritage hotel awaits, combining comfort with echoes of the Nguyen Dynasty. Dinner features royal-style cuisine—dishes once reserved for emperors—offering an elegant close to a demanding yet rewarding day.

Overnight in Hue.

Day 5: Hue – Hai Van Pass – Da Nang – Hoi An (~180 km / 5 hours)

After breakfast, you set out on what is perhaps Vietnam’s most iconic riding day. Departing Hue, the road hugs the coast before ascending the legendary Hai Van Pass. This serpentine road coils through mountains, offering panoramic views of the East Sea on one side and lush forests on the other. Riding a CB500X or GS1250 here is pure joy—steady handling on the curves, exhilarating acceleration on open stretches.

At the summit, you pause to take in the view: Da Nang city shimmering in the distance, waves breaking far below, clouds drifting across the peaks. This is a rider’s dream, immortalized in travel magazines and television shows, yet even more breathtaking in reality.

Descending into Da Nang, you’ll enjoy a seaside lunch, perhaps fresh seafood caught that morning. The ride then continues southward along the coast, past marble quarries and fishing villages, until you reach Hoi An.

Arriving in the afternoon, the contrast is striking. After days of mountains and highways, Hoi An greets you with lantern-lit streets, ancient merchant houses, and riverside charm. Your boutique hotel lies within walking distance of the Old Town, making it easy to explore. As evening falls, the Thu Bon River reflects thousands of glowing lanterns, and dinner may be enjoyed at a riverside restaurant, sampling cao lầu noodles or white rose dumplings—Hoi An’s specialties.

Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 6: Hoi An Leisure & Departure

Your final day is a gentle contrast to the intensity of the previous rides. After breakfast, you’re free to explore Hoi An at your own pace. The morning light bathes the Old Town in a golden glow, perfect for wandering its narrow alleys lined with ochre-colored buildings, artisan shops, and tailor boutiques.

For those still craving the saddle, an optional short adventure ride can be arranged into the countryside. A loop through rice paddies and coconut groves leads you to quiet villages, where life moves with the rhythm of the river. Farmers tending water buffalo, fishermen casting nets, and children cycling to school remind you of Vietnam’s timeless charm.

By midday, you return to the hotel for a final meal together—a chance to celebrate new friendships, relive highlights, and laugh about shared moments on the road. In the afternoon, transfers are arranged to Da Nang Airport for your onward journey.

As the tour concludes, you carry with you more than photos. You carry the memory of six days across Vietnam’s most legendary landscapes: misty valleys, forested ridges, iconic passes, and cultural treasures, all experienced in the saddle of a trusted ADV Big Bike. This was not just a tour—it was an adventure that stitched together roads and relationships, leaving a mark on both the rider and the land.
