01

Day 1 – Chiang Mai Big Bike Ride to Mae Sariang via Doi Inthanon

The expedition begins in Chiang Mai with a morning departure and an immediate introduction to why northern Thailand is considered one of Asia’s great motorcycle regions. Leaving the city behind, the road gradually climbs toward Doi Inthanon National Park, where the air cools and the landscape shifts into dense forest, mountain scenery, and smooth twisting tarmac. This opening stage of the Thailand Big Bike Tour offers an ideal combination of scenic riding and iconic natural attractions, setting the tone for the days ahead.

One of the first major stops is Wachirathan Waterfall, where a powerful cascade provides a refreshing break and an excellent photo opportunity. The route then continues upward to the Twin Royal Pagodas, beautifully positioned high on Thailand’s tallest mountain. From here, riders can enjoy panoramic views across layered ridgelines and cool highland gardens that feel far removed from the tropical lowlands. The road in this section is a pleasure to ride, with flowing bends, clean mountain air, and rewarding elevation changes that make the climb especially memorable.

After taking in the highland scenery, the tour descends through lush forest and sweeping mountain roads toward Mae Sariang. The change in atmosphere is noticeable as the terrain opens into quieter countryside and the day settles into a more relaxed rhythm. Arrival in Mae Sariang comes in the late afternoon, with time to check in to a riverside or town-centre hotel and unwind before dinner. The evening is best enjoyed at an easy pace, either exploring the quiet local markets or settling into a relaxed meal in this peaceful riverside town.\

Day 2 – Mae Sariang Adventure Ride to Pai via Mae Hong Son

Day two is one of the most exciting riding days of the entire journey, following a spectacular line north toward Pai through Mae Hong Son. This stage captures the essence of a Thailand adventure motorcycle tour, with endless mountain curves, rolling elevations, and richly forested scenery that constantly changes throughout the day. From the first kilometers out of Mae Sariang, the road begins to reveal the kind of rhythm that seasoned riders love, delivering long sequences of twisty tarmac through some of the north’s most beautiful highland terrain.

A standout stop along the route is Doi Mae U Kho and its Sunflower Viewpoint. During the late autumn bloom, the hills here are covered in golden flowers, making this one of the most photogenic moments on the ride. Even outside the main season, the viewpoint remains a rewarding highland stop with wide open scenery and a strong sense of space. Continuing onward, the road flows into Mae Hong Son, where riders can pause for refreshments and enjoy a cultural break in one of northern Thailand’s most atmospheric mountain towns.

The afternoon ride to Pai continues through forested valleys and broad rolling hills, maintaining the day’s momentum while gradually approaching a destination with a completely different mood. Pai is known for its relaxed mountain-town character, popular dining spots, street markets, and easygoing evening energy. After check-in at a boutique hotel or resort, riders can explore the cafés and live music scene or simply relax after a full day of mountain riding on one of the most celebrated Thailand scenic big bike riding routes.

03

Day 3 – Pai Mountain Riding Route to Chiang Dao

Leaving Pai behind, day three delivers another classic northern riding stage, especially loved by motorcyclists for the sheer concentration of bends. The first 100 kilometers include more than 700 curves, making this one of the most talked-about stretches of road in the region. For riders who enjoy rhythm, precision, and confidence-building mountain riding, this section offers a deeply satisfying experience and stands out as a highlight of many Northern Thailand big bike riding routes.

The route is not only technical, but also exceptionally scenic. Forested hillsides, steep valleys, and layers of mountain scenery unfold continuously, giving the ride a strong sense of immersion in the landscape. The changing road rhythm keeps riders engaged, while the quality of the mountain environment ensures that the day feels as visually rewarding as it is enjoyable behind the handlebars. It is a stage that showcases why the north is such a strong destination for riders seeking a true Thailand motorbike adventure with character and variety.

Before reaching the overnight stop, the tour includes a visit to Chiang Dao Cave, one of the region’s best-known natural landmarks. A guided walk through its limestone chambers adds a memorable contrast to the hours spent on the road and gives the day a cultural and geological dimension. By late afternoon, riders arrive in Chiang Dao, a setting defined by dramatic peaks and peaceful rural surroundings. A mountain-view lodge or resort provides the perfect base for the evening, with a quiet countryside dinner and a chance to rest well before the next major stretch of the expedition.

04

Day 4 – Chiang Dao to Chiang Rai on Remote Mountain Roads

Day four shifts the route eastward and brings a slightly different character to the adventure. Instead of following more familiar touring corridors, the ride uses lesser-known mountain roads with technical curves, steep gradients, and wide countryside views. This stage feels exploratory and authentic, making it a strong example of a guided Thailand big bike tour that goes beyond the standard highlights and into quieter northern terrain.

The riding throughout the day is engaging and varied. There are sections that demand attention through tighter corners and changing gradients, balanced by more open stretches where the surrounding hills and remote countryside can be fully appreciated. Small villages, rolling landscapes, and lightly travelled roads create a sense of movement through a less commercial side of the region. This combination of technical enjoyment and genuine scenery makes the stage especially satisfying for riders who appreciate roads with personality.

By afternoon, the tour reaches Chiang Rai and transitions from mountain riding to cultural exploration. The city’s major landmarks provide a striking visual contrast to the day’s remote roads. Wat Rong Khun, the famous White Temple, is a standout for its brilliant architecture and artistic detail. The Blue Temple offers a completely different but equally memorable atmosphere, while the Black House adds depth and creative intrigue if time allows. After the visits, arrival at a central Chiang Rai hotel gives the group time to freshen up before exploring the night bazaar or enjoying a relaxed dinner in one of northern Thailand’s most culturally distinctive cities.

05

Day 5 – Chiang Rai Big Bike Journey to Phu Chi Fah

The fifth day is one of the most diverse and visually dramatic stages of the entire expedition. Departing Chiang Rai, the ride heads toward the base of the Himalayan foothills, where the terrain begins to lift and the scenery becomes broader, more rugged, and increasingly panoramic. This is the kind of day that gives a Thailand Big Bike Adventure real scale, combining mountain viewpoints, border-region culture, historical points of interest, and one of the north’s most memorable overnight locations.

A major highlight is Doi Tung, followed by the viewpoint at Pha Hi village, both of which offer superb highland scenery and a strong sense of northern Thailand’s upland identity. The route also passes through the Tham Luang National Park area, known internationally as the site of the 2018 cave rescue, adding a place of real historical recognition to the itinerary. Farther north, Mae Sai marks Thailand’s northernmost point and brings a distinctive border-town energy. The stop at the Golden Triangle Park overlooking the Mekong adds another layer of interest, connecting the ride to one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic river landscapes.

The final approach to Phu Chi Fah is unforgettable. As the road climbs, the air cools, the horizon widens, and the sense of elevation becomes increasingly dramatic. Arrival near Phu Chi Fah offers the rare chance to spend the night high above the valleys, surrounded by mountain silence and the possibility of a breathtaking sunset or sunrise above the clouds. It is one of the defining moments of this Thailand ADV big bike adventure.

06

Day 6 – Phu Chi Fah to Phayao through Quiet Highland Roads

After the drama of Phu Chi Fah, day six offers a calmer but deeply enjoyable ride to Phayao. The morning begins along quiet forest roads with sweeping curves that encourage a smooth, flowing pace. The landscapes here feel open yet peaceful, with distant mountain views, scattered rural settlements, and stretches of road that seem designed for relaxed but satisfying progress. This is an ideal stage for riders who appreciate the gentler side of Thailand adventure riding tours, where the pleasure comes from rhythm, scenery, and the simple enjoyment of the road.

As the route continues, small villages and rice paddies add a human dimension to the ride, reflecting the agricultural life of the northern countryside. Scenic viewpoints along the way make excellent stops for photos and short breaks, while the lightly trafficked roads allow the group to settle into an easy touring pace. The day may be less intense than some earlier mountain sections, but it remains highly rewarding thanks to its balance of scenery, comfort, and open-road feeling.

Arrival in Phayao brings a refreshing change of atmosphere. Set beside its attractive lake, the town has a calm and welcoming character that makes it an excellent overnight stop. The lakeside setting feels especially relaxing after a day in the saddle, and the accommodation here offers a comfortable base for the evening. Riders can enjoy local dining, take a walk through the night market, or simply unwind by the water before continuing the expedition deeper into northern Thailand’s historic heartlands.

07

Day 7 – Phayao to Nan on Flowing Countryside Curves Day seven continues eastward from Phayao to Nan, linking two of northern Thailand’s most appealing secondary towns with a rewarding day of rural riding. The route travels through remote countryside marked by forested hills, quiet farmland, and lightly trafficked roads that make this section particularly enjoyable on a big bike. It is a smooth and confidence-inspiring day, with flowing curves that allow riders to relax into the machine and appreciate the wider landscape. There is a subtle beauty to this route that sets it apart. Instead of major tourist landmarks, the day is shaped by riverside scenery, open valleys, small roadside viewpoints, and the constant presence of forested hills in the distance. These quieter elements create an authentic sense of place and help define the overall Thailand big bike touring experience. The riding remains consistently enjoyable without feeling rushed, giving the day a balanced character that suits long-distance touring very well. By afternoon, the route arrives in Nan, a historic town widely appreciated for its charm, architecture, and peaceful riverside atmosphere. Nan feels both cultured and relaxed, making it one of the most pleasant overnight stops of the expedition. After check-in at a riverside or town hotel, there is time to enjoy dinner and take a gentle walk through the historic center. The evening in Nan provides a welcome contrast to the mountain intensity of earlier days, adding depth and variety to this extended Thailand Motorcycle Tour. Day 8 – Nan to Phrae through Remote Mountains and Hill Villages Day eight carries the expedition southward from Nan to Phrae, following smooth and curving roads through remote mountains and quiet rural communities. This stage is ideal for riders who enjoy uninterrupted tarmac, scenic elevation changes, and the kind of lesser-known roads that reveal the deeper character of northern Thailand. The route moves through terraced rice fields, forests, and small hilltribe villages, creating a strong sense of travel through landscapes that remain grounded in local daily life. The ride itself is flowing and enjoyable, with enough corners to stay engaging while still allowing time to appreciate the scenery. Along the way, occasional stops at local temples or viewpoints provide natural pauses and add cultural texture to the day. This is one of those touring stages where the cumulative mood matters as much as any single landmark. The road, the countryside, and the slower pace of village life work together to create a rich and immersive Thailand adventure motorcycle travel experience. Arriving in Phrae brings another change in atmosphere. Known for its teakwood houses and long cultural heritage, the town has a distinct identity that sets it apart from the mountain villages and farming landscapes visited earlier in the trip. A boutique hotel provides a comfortable overnight base, while the evening invites exploration of the night market and historic streets. Phrae is not only a convenient stop on the route, but also a destination with its own quiet charm and strong local character. Day 9 – Phrae Scenic Big Bike Ride to Lampang The ninth day continues through one of the north’s rewarding secondary touring corridors, linking Phrae to Lampang on a ride that combines scenic mountain passes with rural countryside roads. This section has a pleasing variety, moving between hill scenery, village landscapes, and smoother open stretches that make for a highly enjoyable day in the saddle. It is another fine example of the diversity found on the best big bike tours in Thailand, where no two riding days feel the same. There is time along the route for stops at local villages or scenic viewpoints, giving riders a chance to stretch, take photos, and absorb the changing character of the countryside. The road remains entertaining without becoming overly demanding, making it a suitable stage late in the expedition when the group can enjoy the ride with confidence and ease. The overall feel is mature and well-paced, with a satisfying balance between riding enjoyment and cultural discovery. By afternoon, the tour arrives in Lampang, a city known for its horse-drawn carriages, temple culture, and distinctive old-town atmosphere. An optional visit to Wat Phra That Lampang Luang adds a major cultural highlight, as the temple is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and historically significant in northern Thailand. After check-in at a central hotel, the evening is open for dinner and a relaxed walk through the old town. Lampang offers a memorable final overnight stop before the expedition turns back toward Chiang Mai. Scenic Big Bike Ride to Lampang Day 10 – Lampang to Chiang Mai via Chae Son National Park and Mae Kampong The final day of the expedition brings the journey full circle with a scenic return to Chiang Mai through Chae Son National Park and Mae Kampong. Leaving Lampang, the route heads into forested roads and mountain scenery once more, offering one last rewarding stretch of northern riding. This section is a fitting conclusion to the tour, combining smooth tarmac, natural highlights, and a final taste of highland village life before rolling back into the city. A stop in Chae Son National Park adds a distinctive natural feature to the day, with its hot springs and wooded surroundings creating a refreshing break from the road. The national park roads are enjoyable to ride, with a steady flow of curves and a green, peaceful atmosphere. From there, the route continues to Mae Kampong, a scenic hill village known for its stilt houses, coffee culture, and hillside setting. The village is one of the north’s most appealing short stops, offering riders a chance to walk, relax, and enjoy the local atmosphere before the final push home. The last mountain roads into Chiang Mai carry a strong sense of completion. After ten days of national parks, legendary curves, remote countryside, temple visits, and cultural towns, the return to the starting point feels especially satisfying. This final stage closes an unforgettable Thailand Big Bike Tour that showcases the full depth of northern riding. Arrival is expected in the mid to late afternoon, with an optional celebratory group dinner providing the perfect end to an exceptional journey. End of the trip

Awesome Riding Adventure 5 of us did the 10 day Northern Vietnam Off-road Loop at the end of November, very ably assisted by by our guide, Giang, and support vehicle driver, Dong.We logged over 1800km in 9 days of riding, saw some absolutely amazing scenery, partook in local delicacies, met and partied with ethnic people and had an epic trip.Everything around the trip was managed efficiently by Mike Dong, including organising Vietnamese drivers licences for us all. The bikes we had (CRF300L) performed well with only two flat tyres to speak of. The accommodation choices (apart from one night) were comfortable and adequate, the meals were delicious and plentiful. The whole trip went like clockwork and we got to see places few other tourist would ever get to see.I would definitely recommend this tour or shorter trips if you feel 10 days is a bit much.

Unforgettable 12-day trip from Hanoi to Saigon We highly recommend the 12-day trip from Hanoi to Saigon. The organization was excellent from start to finish. The day before, we were personally briefed by the company owner, received all important details and felt well prepared. Our guide Cong was just awesome. We felt safe at all times and were allowed to experience small cultural excursions practically every day. He showed us beautiful places, introduced us to local culture and was able to tell us an incredible amount about the country. We were also spoiled culinary – we ate very fine every day.An absolutely unique experience, perfectly organized and with a guide who made our experience unforgettable. Clear recommendation!

Great bike tour for 6 days, north west Vietnam Brilliant 6 days, the tours are road based with a little bit of riding on un paved roads, Ducky was our guide, ex-road racer which suited us as we like to push on. Was amazing to see all the villagers, people waving, nothing like miserable old England where everyone thinks your doing something illegal. Homesteads were great, food nothing to say as always the best. Get it booked and take your holiday to +10.
