The name Sapa is derived from Mandarin. In Mandarin, it is pronounced SaPả or SaPá, or “sandy beach” because in the days earlier, there was only one sandy beach where indigenous people often had markets. From the two words “Sa Pa”, Westerners pronounce without accent, become Sapaand they wrote in French those two words as “Cha Pa” and for a very long time after that people used “Cha Pa” as a Vietnamese word. Later, this word was unified as Sa Pa

Morning arrival in Sapa, we rest for breakfast and pick up a motorbike to explore the villages around Sapa

Ban Sau Chua is considered to be the Northwest Cinderella. On a sunny day, you will see rays of sunlight piercing through clouds. On a cloudy day, the top of the scene was even more beautiful. This is truly a memorable experience where you will admire a beautiful rose garden like paradise. This is also the destination for couples’ wedding photography. Muong Hoa valley is located in Hau Thao commune, about 8km southeast from Sapatown. The special thing in this valley is the ancient rocky beach with many different engravings, lying between grass, trees and terraced fields of ethnic minorities. Hundreds of sandstone stones are engraved with strange drawings and characters that have yet to determine the origin and meaning. In Muong Hoa valley, there is also a beautiful small stream stretching for about 15 km, passing through Lao Chai, Ta Van, Hau Thao communes and ending at Ban Ho.

In the afternoon, we visit Seo Ty Ty – a peaceful place under the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. This is a new land that still retains the characteristics of the Mong village in Sapa with the roof of pompat wood, the terraced fields winding around the tallest artificial lake in Indochina, the peach trees. Plum trees, vegetable gardens, herds of cattle make you feel incredibly peaceful.

It is impossible to ignore Lao Chai village – the residence of H’Mong, Dao, Tay, Giay ethnic groups… each has its own cultural color that creates unique cultures. Coming to Lao Chai in the early spring, visitors have the opportunity to lose themselves in the bright pink color of the cherry blossoms, the pristine white color of the plum blossoms and immerse in the vibrant atmosphere in the unique festivals of indigenous people such as Roong Po festival of Giay people, Tay festival in fields …

If the time and weather conditions permit, we have the opportunity to explore or stop at some villages to learn about the cultural life here.

Sunset in Lao Chai / Ta Van villages

We continue to visit Cat Cat village – always an indispensable stopover in Sapa travel, to immerse in the simple life of the ethnic people here. Cat Cat village, located in San Sa Ho commune, is home to a large number of Mong people. Silver Falls is a famous place that everyone who comes to Sapa must visit once. The waterfall has a prime location, located in San Sa Ho commune – where there is a convenient traffic route next to National Highway 4D in the direction of Lai Chau.

The next point of interest, Cong Troi or Heaven Gate, has long been an ideal place for tourists to hunt for clouds and to live virtually. Many people arriving here are mesmerized by the scenery. Standing from above, you can easily see the undulating mountain peaks, white clouds hovering as if you are attached to something. All are blended together to create a beautiful picture of heaven and earth that perhaps no artist can sketch.
