01

Day 1: Hanoi Adventure Scenic Motorcycle Tour to Ta Xua Dinosaur’s Back-bone

Distance: Approx. 200–220 km
Riding Time: Approx. 6–7 hours including stops
Terrain: Rural backroads, mountain tarmac, broken asphalt and optional dirt tracks
Difficulty: Moderate
Main Highlights: Hanoi countryside – mountain villages – Ta Xua – cloud hunting – Dinosaur Backbone
Overnight: Homestay or Ecolodge in Ta Xua

You roll out of Hanoi early, when the city is still yawning and the Red River Delta is wrapped in soft morning haze. Within an hour, traffic thins and the landscape begins to breathe—rice paddies, quiet villages, and the first low hills rising like gentle waves. Today is your “gateway day”: the ride transitions from easy tarmac into true backroads, where local life moves at a slower rhythm and every stop feels unfiltered.

As you climb deeper into the northwest, the air cools and the road tightens into twisted roads with sharp curves—exactly the kind of terrain that makes a motorbike feel like an extension of your body. Expect sections of broken asphalt and occasional dirt tracks through rural lanes, especially if we detour to avoid trucks and find the more scenic lines. You’ll pass tea hills and small market towns where smiling faces and quick hellos are still a daily ritual. In the mountains, you’ll notice the cultural texture shift—this region is home to diverse ethnic communities, and the stilt-house architecture and clothing colors hint at stories older than the modern road.

By late afternoon, Ta Xua welcomes you with misty ridgelines and pine-scented air. If the weather is kind, we’ll aim for the famous “Dinosaur’s Back-bone” viewpoint—an epic spine-like ridge that cuts through the clouds. It’s not a place you simply photograph; it’s a place you stand still, listening to wind and distant birds, feeling the altitude in your lungs after a full day’s adventure ride.

Evening is for warmth: a simple local dinner, hot tea, and that quiet satisfaction riders know well—hands slightly tired, heart completely awake.

Overnight: Ta Xua.

Vietnam Dirt Bike Adventure Tour to Ta Xua Peak
02

Day 2: Ta Xua Adventure Scenic Motorcycle Tour to Pu Luong Nature Reserve (Green Sanctuary)

Distance: Approx. 220–240 km
Riding Time: Approx. 7–8 hours
Terrain: Winding mountain roads, rural backroads, broken surfaces and optional dirt sections
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
Main Highlights: Ta Xua sunrise – mountain valleys – ethnic villages – rice terraces – Pu Luong Nature Reserve
Overnight: Homestay or Eco-Resorts in Pu Luong

This morning begins with a sky that never looks the same twice. Ta Xua is famous for its “sea of clouds,” and even if the mist drifts in and out, the feeling is always cinematic—like riding along the edge of the world. After breakfast, you’ll drop from high ridges into valleys where the road unwinds in long, winding roads, then tightens again into a necklace of bends as you cross from the northwest highlands toward the lush limestone country of northern Vietnam.

Today is a “texture day”: the ride mixes smooth sections with offroads detours when we chase the quieter route. Depending on the season, you might meet patches of muddy roads after rain, or dusty dirt tracks that cut through farmland and bamboo groves. The bike dances a little more here, and that’s the fun—standing on the pegs, reading the surface, letting the machine float over imperfections. We’ll stop at local tea stalls and roadside kitchens where food is honest and quick: grilled corn, sticky rice, or a bowl of noodle soup that tastes like someone’s home.

As you approach Pu Luong, the scenery shifts into dramatic limestone karsts and layered rice terraces. This region is a living postcard, but it’s also deeply human—small villages tucked into the folds of green, water wheels turning steadily, and footpaths where farmers carry baskets the same way their grandparents did. The pace slows naturally because you’ll want to absorb it: buffalo in the fields, children waving from village lanes, and the constant sound of water running somewhere nearby.

By late afternoon, you enter Pu Luong’s peaceful heart. The air smells of forest and wet leaves. Sunset here isn’t loud—it’s soft and golden, spilling across terraces like warm honey.

Overnight: Pu Luong.

03

Day 3: Pu Luong Adventure Scenic Motorcycle Tour to Tan Ki on Ho Chi Minh trail

Distance: Approx. 210–230 km
Riding Time: Approx. 7–8 hours
Terrain: Rural lanes, mountain roads and predominantly paved Ho Chi Minh Road
Difficulty: Moderate
Main Highlights: Pu Luong terraces – local villages – Ho Chi Minh Trail corridor – Tan Ky
Overnight: Hotel in Tan Ky

Wake up to Pu Luong’s quiet soundtrack—roosters, flowing streams, and the gentle creak of wooden stilt houses coming alive. Before you leave, you’ll likely steal one last look at the terraces; the light here feels almost painted. Then it’s time to point the front wheel south, toward one of Vietnam’s most legendary routes: the Ho Chi Minh Trail corridor.

The first hours thread through rural backroads where the world is close and personal. You’ll ride past small hamlets, limestone outcrops, and farm lanes that sometimes turn into narrow single tracks—perfect for riders who love a little technical flavor without going extreme. When the surface changes, you’ll feel it immediately: a stretch of gravel, a short dirt section, a bumpy concrete lane. It’s the kind of riding that keeps you alert and engaged, not just moving from point A to point B.

As the day unfolds, the landscape becomes broader and more “spined”—Vietnam’s central backbone begins to take shape. You’re heading toward Tan Ky, often referenced as a meaningful gateway to the Ho Chi Minh Trail story: a route born from necessity, courage, and relentless logistics during wartime. The road today carries a different kind of weight—not heavy in a sad way, but in a reflective way. Riding here, you understand why Vietnam’s geography matters: mountains that can hide supply routes, valleys that can protect villages, forests that can swallow sound.

We’ll pause for simple roadside coffee and watch local life flow—motorbikes loaded with everything from chickens to construction material, schoolkids in uniforms, farmers moving with calm purpose. It’s a reminder that Vietnam is not a museum; it’s a living, forward-moving country where history sits quietly beneath everyday smiles.

Arriving in Tan Ky by late afternoon, you’ll feel that satisfying shift: tomorrow, you truly “enter” the central adventure corridor.

Overnight: Tan Ky.

Hanoi motorbike tour to tan ky
04

Day 4: Tan Ki Adventure Scenic Motorcycle Tour to Phong Nha cave (world’s natural heritage)

Distance: Approx. 270–280 km
Riding Time: Approx. 7–8 hours
Terrain: Predominantly paved Ho Chi Minh Road, rolling mountain roads, limestone valleys and occasional rural backroads
Difficulty: Moderate
Main Highlights: Ho Chi Minh Road – Truong Son landscapes – rural Central Vietnam – Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park
Overnight: Hotel / Homestay in Phong Nha

Today you follow the spirit of the mountains. Leaving Tan Ky, the route begins to feel more remote and purposeful—less populated, more wild. The Ho Chi Minh Road in this region is a rider’s dream: rolling elevation, long sweeping turns, and sudden sharp curves that appear like punctuation marks in the forest. The air becomes cooler and cleaner as you enter the Annamite Range—Vietnam’s rugged central spine that shapes weather, culture, and history alike.

Expect a day of gorgeous “flow”: sections of twisted roads through jungle-green hills, then moments where the view opens to reveal river valleys and distant ridgelines. If conditions allow, we can add short offroads alternatives—quiet dirt tracks leading through villages and farmland—before rejoining the main scenic line. After rain, some corners can be slick and muddy roads may appear in shaded areas, so this is where smooth throttle control and calm riding make the day feel effortless.

As you approach Phong Nha–Ke Bang, the geology becomes dramatic—towering limestone cliffs, underground rivers, and karst formations that look almost otherworldly. This is a place famous for caves, yes, but also for its raw, ancient presence. The park is recognized globally for its natural value, and you’ll understand why the moment you see the landscape: it doesn’t look “designed,” it looks timeless.

In the afternoon, you roll into the Phong Nha area, where the pace softens. Riverbanks, small guesthouses, and a relaxed traveler vibe replace the intensity of the road. If you still have energy, a short sunset walk by the river is perfect—local boats gliding quietly, lights reflecting on the water, and that calm feeling you get after a day of true adventure ride.

Tonight is for recovery: good food, a cold drink, and stories from the road.

Overnight: Phong Nha area.

Phong Nha Cave
05

Day 5: Phong Nha Cave Adventure Scenic Motorcycle Tour via Thien Duong Cave + War relics to The Khe Sanh Combat Base

Distance: Approx. 230–250 km, depending on sightseeing route
Riding Time: Approx. 7–9 hours riding plus cave visit
Terrain: Remote paved mountain road, jungle, steep gradients and continuous winding sections
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging / Long Day
Main Highlights: Paradise Cave – Phong Nha–Ke Bang – Western Ho Chi Minh Road – Truong Son Mountains – remote jungle – Khe Sanh Combat Base
Overnight: Hotel in Khe Sanh

This morning begins underground—literally. After breakfast, you ride into the forested limestone zone to visit Thien Duong (Paradise) Cave, a cathedral-like world of stone. Inside, time feels slow: towering formations, cool air, and that hushed silence you only find in places shaped by nature over millions of years. It’s a powerful contrast to motorbike life—where everything is motion and sound.

Back on the bikes, the route points south toward Vietnam’s most emotionally resonant corridor: the former DMZ region and the roads that carried both supplies and heartbreak during the war. The ride becomes more intense in meaning, not necessarily in difficulty—though you’ll still meet winding roads, occasional rough patches, and sharp curves as hills tighten and valleys narrow. We’ll pass relic sites and reminders that history here is not abstract; it sits close to the land.

As you cross into Quang Tri, you feel the geography that made this area strategically crucial: mountains, passes, and corridors leading toward Laos. Depending on time and interest, we can stop at select war relic viewpoints—enough to understand, not so much that the day becomes heavy. Then the road climbs toward Khe Sanh, once a remote plateau base surrounded by jungle and contested ridgelines. Arriving here by afternoon, the atmosphere is quiet—almost deceptively peaceful. That’s what makes it striking: the same hills that now hold coffee farms and small towns once held global attention.

The final stretch can include short dirt tracks and offroads detours if conditions are safe—giving you that gritty rider’s satisfaction before you settle in. Evening in Khe Sanh is calm, cool, and reflective.

Overnight: Khe Sanh.

06

Day 6: Khe Sanh Adventure Scenic Motorcycle Tour to Hue’s Imperial Citadel + Royal Tombs

Distance: Approx. 160–180 km
Riding Time: Approx. 5–6 hours riding, plus sightseeing
Terrain: Mountain roads, rural backroads and predominantly paved roads approaching Hue
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Main Highlights: Khe Sanh – Dak Rong area – Central Vietnam countryside – Hue Imperial Citadel – selected Nguyen Dynasty royal tomb
Overnight: Hotel in Hue

Leaving Khe Sanh, you descend from the highland plateau toward Vietnam’s historic heart. The road today is beautifully varied: mountain air early on, then softer landscapes as you approach the Perfume River region. You’ll feel the climate change—the central coast influence begins to appear, and the light takes on a gentler hue.

The ride offers a blend of smooth tarmac and quiet backroads. If weather permits, we can choose sections with winding roads that cut through rural scenes—small pagodas, village cemeteries with ornate stonework, and fields where farmers work with a rhythm that hasn’t changed much in generations. It’s not the “wildest” day for terrain, but it’s one of the richest for atmosphere. You’ve traveled from cloud-ridges and karst country into a city shaped by emperors, poetry, and layered history.

Arriving in Hue, the story deepens. Once the capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, the city still carries a refined, almost nostalgic elegance. You’ll explore the Imperial Citadel—moats, gates, and royal courtyards that speak of Vietnam’s dynastic past. Unlike a quick photo-stop, this visit is about mood: the symmetry of architecture, the echoes of old ceremonies, and the quiet resilience after wars and time.

Later, you ride out to the royal tombs scattered along the river and hillsides—each one reflecting a different emperor’s personality, philosophy, and taste. The mix of nature and design is beautiful: frangipani trees, stone mandarins, mossy stairways, and carved dragons guarding eternal rest.

Tonight, Hue invites slower pleasures: a riverside dinner, maybe a gentle walk, and the satisfaction of reaching the cultural soul of central Vietnam.

Overnight: Hue.

Hanoi Southern Motorbike Tour to Da Nang on Ho Chi Minh Trail
Khe Sanh
07

Day 7: Hue Adventure Scenic Motorcycle Tour via Lang Co Beach & Hai Van Pass to Da Nang / Hoi An

Distance: Approx. 150–160 km
Riding Time: Approx. 5–6 hours plus sightseeing
Terrain: Smooth coastal tarmac, lagoon roads and winding mountain pass
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Main Highlights: Hue – Lap An Lagoon – Lang Co Beach – Hai Van Pass – Da Nang – Hoi An Ancient Town
Finish: Hoi An / Da Nang

Today is the kind of ride riders talk about long after the trip ends. You leave Hue and glide toward the coast, where the road begins to sparkle with salt air and open horizons. The first highlight is Lang Co—an elegant crescent of beach framed by mountains. It’s a perfect pause to breathe, sip coffee, and watch fishing life unfold with quiet confidence.

Then comes Hai Van Pass: one of Vietnam’s most iconic mountain roads, a natural gateway between northern and southern central Vietnam. The climb is pure joy—twisted roads, sharp curves, and sweeping viewpoints where the sea looks endless and the coastline curls like a painted map below you. In clear weather, the views are postcard-perfect; in mist, the ride becomes mysterious, like moving through a cloud corridor. Either way, it’s an adventure ride with personality.

We take our time on the pass, stopping at viewpoints and remnants of old fortifications that hint at the pass’s strategic significance through history. The descent toward Da Nang is fast and flowing, then suddenly the city appears—modern, coastal, energetic. From here, you can choose your finish: Da Nang for a lively seaside evening, or continue to Hoi An for lantern-lit charm and timeless streets.

The final kilometers soften—less technical, more celebratory. You’ve crossed Vietnam’s spine on a motorbike, touched ethnic highlands, karst worlds, war-history corridors, imperial heritage, and the sea. The road has given you dirt tracks and backroads, smooth curves and steep passes, and that rare feeling of truly earning every destination.

Tonight, you park the bike and let the journey settle into you—like dust on boots and stories in your smile.

Overnight: Da Nang or Hoi An.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is this Vietnam motorbike tour suitable for beginners?

This tour is best suited to riders with at least some previous motorcycle experience. You should be comfortable using a manual motorcycle, riding for several hours a day and dealing with mountain curves, steep gradients and changing surfaces. Complete beginners should consider a shorter or easier tour first.

2. How difficult is the 7-day Hanoi to Hoi An motorbike tour?

Overall, we classify it as moderate, with several more demanding sections. Ta Xua can involve rough mountain roads or optional dirt sections, while Phong Nha to Khe Sanh is a long and remote riding day. It is an adventure tour rather than an extreme enduro expedition.

3. How much off-road riding is included?

The tour combines tarmac, narrow local roads, broken surfaces and optional dirt-track sections. The amount of off-road riding depends on weather, rider ability and current road conditions. Importantly, much of the modern Ho Chi Minh Road is now paved; its appeal comes from remote mountains, jungle, minimal traffic and history rather than continuous technical off-road riding.

4. How far do we ride each day?

Most days cover approximately 150–280 km. Distance alone does not indicate difficulty: 220 km on twisting mountain roads can feel considerably longer than the same distance on highway.

5. How many hours will I be on the motorcycle each day?

Expect around 6–8 hours of riding and touring, with regular coffee, lunch, sightseeing and photography stops. The Phong Nha–Khe Sanh stage can be longer and requires an early departure.

6. What motorcycles are suitable for this tour?

Honda XR150L, CRF250L and CRF300L are particularly suitable because they combine manageable weight, reliability and enough suspension travel for rougher roads. Larger adventure motorcycles may also be appropriate for experienced riders.

7. Which motorcycle should I choose: XR150, CRF250 or CRF300 or Honda CB500x?

The XR150L is light, simple and easy to manage. The CRF250L/CRF300L provides stronger suspension, greater power and more confidence on rough mountain roads. Taller or more experienced riders generally appreciate the CRF300L but if you prefer cruising comfortably on such an epic journey then a Honda CB500x is always your best choice

8. What is the best time of year for this tour?

Spring and autumn are generally excellent periods for comfortable temperatures and mountain riding. Summer offers lush landscapes but greater chances of heavy rain and muddy mountain sections. Winter can be cool or cold in Ta Xua while Central Vietnam may experience different weather patterns, so riders should pack layers and waterproof clothing.

9. Will I definitely see the Ta Xua sea of clouds?

No. The sea of clouds is a natural weather phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. Humidity, temperature, wind and overnight weather all influence visibility. We schedule the route to maximise the opportunity, but Ta Xua remains impressive even under clear skies.

10. Is the Dinosaur Backbone difficult to ride?

Access and riding conditions around the Ta Xua ridges vary considerably. The guide will select a route appropriate to the group and weather. Some exposed or technically difficult sections are better explored on foot rather than forcing motorcycles onto unsafe trails.

11. Is the Ho Chi Minh Trail still an off-road trail?

Not in the way many riders imagine. Many sections inside Vietnam are now paved roads. The western Phong Nha–Khe Sanh section remains exceptional because it runs for long distances through remote jungle-covered mountains with very limited settlements and traffic.

12. Why is Phong Nha to Khe Sanh considered one of the tour highlights?

It combines approximately 230–250 km of remote mountain riding with the Truong Son landscape and important Ho Chi Minh Trail history. Long sequences of bends, jungle, sparse traffic and isolation create one of the finest adventure-riding experiences in Vietnam.

13. Do we visit caves in Phong Nha?

The itinerary includes Paradise Cave / Thien Duong Cave before continuing toward Khe Sanh. Because the riding day is already long, we recommend focusing on one major cave experience rather than trying to include several caves.

14. How much walking is involved?

Most days involve only light walking at viewpoints and attractions. Paradise Cave requires more walking and stair climbing than other stops. Hue Citadel and royal tomb visits also involve walking, but sightseeing can be adjusted for guests with mobility concerns.

15. Is Khe Sanh only interesting for military-history enthusiasts?

No. War history is an important part of the destination, but Khe Sanh is also the endpoint of one of the tour’s most spectacular mountain riding days. The surrounding highlands are now peaceful agricultural landscapes, creating a powerful contrast with their twentieth-century history.

16. Do we visit the DMZ?

The route passes through regions strongly connected to the former DMZ and wartime history. Exact historical stops depend on available time. Guests particularly interested in military history can request additional DMZ sites, although this may require modifying the riding schedule.

17. Is Hue worth including on a motorcycle adventure?

Absolutely. Hue creates an important cultural contrast with the riding sections. After days of mountains and war-history landscapes, guests experience Vietnam’s imperial heritage, architecture, royal tombs, cuisine and Perfume River culture.

18. Why is Hai Van Pass famous among motorcyclists?

Hai Van combines flowing corners with mountain-and-sea scenery, viewpoints and relatively manageable riding. It is scenic rather than technically difficult, making it a memorable final riding day.

19. Where does the tour finish?

The tour normally finishes in Hoi An, with Da Nang also available as an alternative finish depending on the guest’s onward arrangements.

20. Can I fly out of Da Nang after the tour?

Yes. Da Nang International Airport is the main airport serving both Da Nang and Hoi An, making onward domestic or international connections convenient after the ride.

21. What licence do I need to legally ride a motorcycle in Vietnam?

Riders must hold driving documentation valid for the motorcycle category being used. Vietnam recognises, among other qualifying documents, an appropriate 1968 Vienna Convention International Driving Permit together with the corresponding valid national driving licence issued by a participating country. Riders should have their documentation checked before departure because licence recognition depends on the issuing country and motorcycle category.

22. Do I need motorcycle travel insurance?

Yes, riders should arrange travel insurance that explicitly covers riding the engine capacity selected for the tour. Standard travel insurance can exclude motorcycle riding, off-road activity or riding without the correct licence, so the policy wording should be checked carefully.

23. What happens if heavy rain or a landslide blocks the route?

The tour leader may change a dirt section, use an alternative road or modify the day’s schedule. Mountain routes in Vietnam can change rapidly after storms, so flexibility is part of responsible adventure-tour operations.

24. Is a support vehicle available?

A support vehicle can be arranged for larger groups or on request. It is especially useful for carrying luggage, providing additional operational support and accommodating non-riding companions.

25. Can a non-riding partner join the tour?

Yes, subject to support-vehicle arrangements. This is often a much more comfortable option than travelling pillion for seven consecutive days.

26. What should I pack?

Bring lightweight riding clothes, proper riding boots, gloves, waterproof layers, sunscreen and warm clothing for the northern mountains. Pack light because luggage space on motorcycles is limited.

27. Is this tour more about riding or sightseeing?

Both. The product is designed for people who genuinely enjoy riding, but it deliberately combines the motorcycle experience with local culture, scenery, UNESCO heritage, food and modern Vietnamese history.

28. What makes this tour different from a standard Hanoi-to-Hoi An motorcycle tour?

The major difference is Ta Xua. Rather than riding directly south from Hanoi, the itinerary first climbs into Northern Vietnam’s cloud mountains before turning toward Pu Luong and the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This creates far greater landscape diversity within only seven days.

29. Can the itinerary be customised?

Yes. Riding difficulty, motorcycle type, accommodation level, sightseeing priorities and extra nights can be adapted for private groups.

30. Who will enjoy this tour most?

This journey is particularly suited to riders who want variety rather than extreme technical difficulty: mountain riding, occasional dirt tracks, local villages, long remote roads, history, caves, imperial culture and an unforgettable coastal finish.

Awesome Riding Adventure 5 of us did the 10 day Northern Vietnam Off-road Loop at the end of November, very ably assisted by by our guide, Giang, and support vehicle driver, Dong.We logged over 1800km in 9 days of riding, saw some absolutely amazing scenery, partook in local delicacies, met and partied with ethnic people and had an epic trip.Everything around the trip was managed efficiently by Mike Dong, including organising Vietnamese drivers licences for us all. The bikes we had (CRF300L) performed well with only two flat tyres to speak of. The accommodation choices (apart from one night) were comfortable and adequate, the meals were delicious and plentiful. The whole trip went like clockwork and we got to see places few other tourist would ever get to see.I would definitely recommend this tour or shorter trips if you feel 10 days is a bit much.

Unforgettable 12-day trip from Hanoi to Saigon We highly recommend the 12-day trip from Hanoi to Saigon. The organization was excellent from start to finish. The day before, we were personally briefed by the company owner, received all important details and felt well prepared. Our guide Cong was just awesome. We felt safe at all times and were allowed to experience small cultural excursions practically every day. He showed us beautiful places, introduced us to local culture and was able to tell us an incredible amount about the country. We were also spoiled culinary – we ate very fine every day.An absolutely unique experience, perfectly organized and with a guide who made our experience unforgettable. Clear recommendation!

Great bike tour for 6 days, north west Vietnam Brilliant 6 days, the tours are road based with a little bit of riding on un paved roads, Ducky was our guide, ex-road racer which suited us as we like to push on. Was amazing to see all the villagers, people waving, nothing like miserable old England where everyone thinks your doing something illegal. Homesteads were great, food nothing to say as always the best. Get it booked and take your holiday to +10.

Am absolutely amazing ten days in northern Vietnam We did a 10 day tour. Lihn was our guide. Great guy. We had a Canadian guy join us, so 4 in total. Amazing time, 10 days few by. I had a gopro on my helmet facing forward, Lihn had one facing back. Michael, the owner has put all the footage together and made a great video. We are now looking at another trip with these guys.

Great 12 Day Tour through Northern Vietnam We had a great trip with Ducky and Son showing us hidden offroad tracks and beautiful sceneries in Northern Vietnam. They were also very professional whenever something on the bike required fixing. The homestays and hotels were well selected, providing a great experience of local culture and cuisine. Can highly recommend the trip!

10 Days Completed the 10 Day trip. It was guided and tailored to our riding abilities. Sadly we came at a time with flooding and could not complete some tracks because of this. The food was amazing at every location. Homestays were fantastic, nice people. Ducky had good knowledge about the locations and good recommendations
